The Princess Bride
I was flipping through the TV channels last night and found a reality TV show about a Groom-to-be in charge of planning every detail of his wedding for his Bride including choosing her wedding gown. He had a low budget and a lazy best friend to make matters worse.
The Bride was a pretty brunette in her mid-twenties with a nose ring. She wore heavy makeup and dressed provocatively. When talking amongst her friends, she said she wanted a sexy dress with a black lace bodice and shorts underneath so she could take off the dress for the reception afterwards. She also lamented about anything too princessy or pink. Pink was her least favorite color of all. The Bride said she wanted something edgy, contemporary and unexpected for her wedding gown.
So what did her husband to be choose for her? The most royal looking gown you can imagine with the train dyed lightly in pink. The dress was sleeveless with long white satin gloves. Everyone was on pins and needles, not knowing how she would respond once she saw her wedding dress~ the one her Groom chose for her.
The moment of truth finally came when she nervously walked in the wedding gown boutique to meet her dress for the first time. When she saw the dress she was puzzled and unsure, but when she tried it on...she cried and twirled in circles exclaiming how beautiful she felt. She said she felt like a Princess Bride!
In addition to her groom choosing a princess-style dress, he arranged a horse and carriage to pick her up to bring her to the church as the church bells were ringing. She wept as she stepped into the carriage exclaiming she couldn't believe how much her husband-to-be truly loved her.
I admit I cried as she walked down the aisle crying making eye contact with him in adoration for the wedding he planned for her! I cried because her husband saw her as a Princess Bride before she could see that in herself. It reminded me of this verse:
Isaiah 61:10-62,3
I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom in his wedding suit or a bride with her jewels. The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world. Everyone will praise him! His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, filled with young plants springing up everywhere.
The Lord will hold you in his hands for all to see—a splendid crown in the hands of God.
Isn't this exactly what her Groom did?
He held her up for all to see~ the splendid Princess Bride!
And God rejoices in us in the same way! Amen.
Yes!!
